Herceptin: Mechanism of action

For more information, visit CancerQuest at

The anti-cancer drug Herceptin (trastuzumab) is an antibody that binds to cancer cells over-expressing the Her2/neu receptor. Activation of the Her2/neu receptor leads to cell proliferation. The animation shows one possible way that the drug can work, by blocking signals from being sent from the receptor into the cells.
