Hair dye is a commonly used cosmetic product for colouring the hair an many of them develop allergy to the hair dye over a period of years. Some develop allergy immediately. Some develop a delayed hypersensitivity reaction which causes darkening of the face and pigmentation in the sides along the hair border , forehead and cheeks. Sometimes it can spread to the necks. This pigmentation is developing over a period of so many years. It is not taken care of and any think it can be because of sunlight or various reasons. This is a pigment cosmetic dermatitis which is causing pigmentation because of reaction to the hair dye. The most common chemical component of hair dye is called as PPD, para phenyl diamine. This is present in most of the hair dye, whether it is darker or lighter shades. This chemical causes irritation to the skin and cause pigmentation. This can be avoided by using a PPD free hair dye which is available in some companies. This does not cause pigmentation similar to that and there is no reaction. It can be used for many years and it may last for a week lesser than regular hair dye but it is safe for any chemical allergy. This can be taken care once hyperpigmentation is already removed . It can be removed by a laser called as Q switched Nd-Yag laser which we are providing at our clinic. This will take multiple sessions say 4 to 6 sessions, each sessions may last for 10 to 15 minutes and everytime the treatment is done it will lighten the pigmentation and give a clear skin. This is a very safe US-FDA approved technique which is done with a doctor who is directly doing the procedure without any involvement of any technicians. This procedure is safe, post care is required after the procedure using a sunscreen and a mild cleansing lotion which we will provide you after the procedure. Apart from this the allergy to the hair dye can be because of various reasons, if they are leaving the hair dye contact for a longer period of time, we recommend it for 20 to 30 minutes it may cause allergy and bullous reactions, it may cause blisters and acute eczema of skin. This has to be treated immediately after consulting a doctor avoid leaving the hair dye for a longer period of time. If you find any sensitivity stop using the hair dye immediately and consult your nearest doctor. The other options for treatment are if you are using the hair dye, you can use a moisturiser or a Vaseline product or petroleum jelly so at the hair dye does not percolate in the skin an avoid direct contact with the skin, the hair dye can be washed without coming in contact with the skin. After washing the hair dye use a moisturiser and if you are getting exposed to sunlight use a sunscreen.
