One of the more common questions I get in my clinic is “Is itchy skin a sign of cancer,” and the answer is it depends. If you have a specific spot, a mole or a growth that’s persistently itchy, this can definitely be a sign of skin cancer even if the color and the texture appears normal. Also, persistent itch of the entire body can be a sign of internal malignancy.
So if you have – if you’re persistently itchy, even though you’ve used moisturizers, medicines to calm down the itch, it’s important to see a dermatologist, to make sure that you don’t have a cause that is internal. Most commonly, lymphomas and other types of skin cancers can present as persistent itch, and diagnosing this early, can lead to a much better outcome.
