Pain relief balms ( Zandu balm, Tiger balm) are often used by most of us to relieve from pain or feel better from the symptoms. 😮💨
But, do you the potential side effects❓
Reactions you should be aware of :
1) Immediate reactions ⏰:
Ingredients in these balms can cause irritant dermatitis leading to blisters and inflammation which can be seen immediately or within 24-48 hrs of application. ( there is paper presented on this as well.)
2) Delayed reactions ⏲:
Allergic contact dermatitis can happen over a period of time with repeated & frequent application leading to thickening and darkening of the skin where the balm is regularly used.
Precautions :
Do not use the balm too frequently. Limit it to 3-4 times application / day.
These are meant to be applied on the skin. Avoid using them on mucosal surfaces/ in the eyes.
Avoid doing these things immediately after using the balm :🚫
1) rough/ harsh massages while applying
2) Do not apply heat to the area immediately after applying.
3) Avoid tight bandages or wrappings immediately after applying the balm.
4) Avoid direct exposure to sun when the balm is on.
I use them personally, but follow these precautions. So don’t have to be disheartened knowing this. Just be cautious.
