What is Leucoderma and vitiligo?
Vitiligo and leucoderma causes the autoimmune disorder in which the immune system attack the healthy cells and it start turning affecting the body. Vitiligo cause the loss of skin color in blotches. The color loss due vitiligo is unpredictable it can affect in any parts of the body. Color of hair is determined by melanin. Vitiligo occurs when the cells that produce melanin die or stop functioning. It can affects people of all skin types, it is more noticeable in people with darker skin. This condition is not life threatening-or contagious. It can be stressful or make you feel bad about yourself.
What is the difference between leucoderma and vitiligo?
Leukoderma is the de-pigmentation of skin marked by the localized or destruction of melanocytes. Vitiligo is a form of leukoderma. The progressive skin disorder is called as vitiligo when the condition occurs without any previously associated disease that can be linked to this condition. Hence Leucoderma and vitiligo are the same.
What are the symptoms of vitiligo and leucoderma?
You can identify vitiligo if Pale and white spot appear in the skin. Generally this is found in those body parts which are in expose with sun. Usually it occurs on hands, wrist and facial areas. Mucous membrane on the inside of your mouth may lose their coloring. Even in your eye (retina) may lose or change in coloring. The less sign vitiligo is premature graying or whitening of the hair, scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows or beard.
What are the treatments of Vitiligo and leucoderma?
Treatments of Vitiligo and leucoderma are tough and slow. There is no possibility that every patient respond equally. However there are some treatments :
Suction Blister Epidermal Grafting : In this treatment the with help of vacuum, the skin is segregated into the ones with the white patches and the other normal skin. Skin with the color pigment is places over the white patches.
Melanocyte Epidermal Cell Suspension : Here, The skin pigment from the normal parts of the body is taken out and converted it into liquid form and then the converted liquid is inserted into the affected white skin area.
Melanocyte Culture : In this the conducting skin biopsy, a small part of the body of the skin is cultured in a specialized lab, which is then grafted on affected area of the body.
Platelet Rich Plasma : After the extracting plasma from the blood, then it is treated and injected into the white patches area. Plasma has stem cells which helps in developing new cells in the body.
