Itching in the ear is a fairly common occurrence these days especially because of unusually practiced habits cleaning of the year is an absolute No-No. It’s not a requirement on a routine basis and many people are in the habit of using buds to clean the ears. Buds did not exist for more than 35 years ago . So how are people cleaning. Cleaning is not required the wax that’s produced is only produced in the outer portion of the ear canal which is mobile with every time you chew moves. So the excessive wax that’s produced in the ear will come out. So cleaning of the ear removes the natural oils and all the wax that’s naturally there and as a result causes dryness and then itching second cause of itching is the use of other materials to clean the ear some of the people use hydrogen peroxide drops in the ear. Sometimes they put salt water in the air are the sediments of which can also cause itching. Sometimes of course people are the habit of turning their ear into the shower when they are having a bath all these practices cause some of the soap water to go inside and cause irritation having said that. There can also be pathological causes for itching there can be allergic dermatitis which can cause itching there can be eczemas of the skin which can cause a lot of itching. Apart from that sometimes you can have infections in the ear which can cause itching as well as pain especially fungal infestations in the external canal what we refer to sometimes as swimmers here. So considering that there are different causes for itching they have to be first identified correctly and then treated it’s necessary to be properly evaluated and then the treatment should be given accordingly. Just wax in the ear doesn’t cause much symptoms apart from blockage of the ears but if there’s a swimmer’s ear it has to be treated sometimes with antifungal medication as well. So likewise each problem has to be properly identified and then treated.
