What is Candidal Intertrigo? – Dr. Aruna Prasad

Intertrigo is an infection which occurs between the fold like underarms or thighs, below the breasts. these are called as intertrigo, it can be both bacterial and fungal. Fungal it can be candida, which is a yeast form of infection. It can be candida or a dermatophyte. Unless you do a skin scraping, you will never know if it is candida or a dermatophyte. This happens because of excessive sweating of the area, keeping the area wet, not cleansing the area, or keeping it dry or underlying illness like diabetes, long term illnesses, high fevers can cause this. So once these causes are ruled out and keep the area dry, then you will be free of any infection or intertrigo or intertriginous area infection.
