DECADE REWIND: 10 years ago, I had just stepped back from the brink of my skin leaking, rotting, and infections overwhelming every part of my body, inside and out. After 25 years of my eczema, allergies, and asthma getting worse, I finally found doctors at the University of Utah who had a clue what my problems were (but no clear idea how to treat my conditions). Their medications stabilized me and helped me improve a smidge, but these weren’t long term solutions. So began these 10 years of using myself as a guinea pig, testing new treatments and off-label use of medications. Here are highlights from every year between 2008–2019, showing the ups and downs of my journey to heal, culminating in someone resembling a human being and getting a hint what a “normal” life might be like.
