Botanical Name: Aloe Barbadensis Miller, Aloe Vera.
Other Names: Chinese Aloe, Indian Aloe, True Aloe, Barbados Aloe, Burn Aloe, First Aid Plant Curacao Aloe, Barbados Aloe, Lily of the Desert.
Origin: Aloe Vera plant originated in the warm, dry climates of Africa. However, because the plant is readily adaptable, and because has been carried from place to place, it now can be found in many warm lands.
Properties of Herb: Aloe Vera has bitter taste, digestive, anti-fungal and antibacterial properties. The Aloe Vera plant has been used since the 4th century BC to treat minor burns, intestinal problems like stomach ulcers, and to help speed wound healing. Scientific studies have shown that a complex carbohydrate in Aloe Vera, acemannan, combines antiviral properties, antibacterial action and also stimulates the immune system.
Aloe Vera contains over 20 minerals, all of which are essential to the human body. The human body requires 22 amino acids for good health – eight of which are called ‘essential’ because the body cannot fabricate them. Aloe Vera contains all of these eight essential amino acids, and 11 of the 14 ‘secondary’ amino acids. Aloe Vera has Vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C and E.

• Acemannan and other polysaccharides boost T-lymphocyte cells which help promote skin healing and neutralize many of the enzymes responsible for damaging the mucosal wall

• Topical uses of this plant includes sunburn, frostbite, shingles, screening out x-ray radiation, psoriasis, preventing scarring, rosacea, warts, wrinkles from ageing, and eczema
• According to some studies, oral consumption of Aloe Vera works effectively to soothe conditions like heartburn, arthritis and rheumatism pain and asthma
• Studies have also suggested that it has a very positive effect on lowering blood sugar levels in diabetics
The Indian name for Aloe Vera is ‘Kumari’ meaning ‘Young Maiden’ in reverence of its reputation for keeping your skin young and healthy. The Egyptians named this plant the ‘plant of immortality’ and was often given as a gift during important rites of passage.
