Angular chelitis is also called as angular stomatitis or angular cheliosis which generally results in the corner of the mouth. This is an inflammatory condition. This can be resulted with pooling of saliva in the denture users , in old patient where they have drooling or in children when they have drooling or they have excess salivation which accumulates in the angle of the mouth which leads to inflammation. It can be a simple inflammation, a rash like reddish lesion with boils which can be uncomfortable for the patient. Other reasons for Angular chelitis can be systemic problem, nutritional deficiency if you have diabetes, or you are a denture wearer. You can have these kind of problems. So ideally it is very important to treat the cause which is causing the Angular chelitis. So nutritional supplements, understanding the denture problems, or understanding why the patient has hyper salivation will be helpful in treating angular cheliosis. In these kind of conditions, invariably there is going to be a fungal infection or candidiasis which will result in accumulation of saliva in a long term basis. So treating all this will help in solving angular chelitis.
