What are different types of white patches? – Dr. Vivekanand Bhat

There are 4 types of white patches seen. One is focal, segmental, then we have generalized viltiligo and you have acrofacial vitiligo. The best results are normally seen in focal, segmental, generalized. Whereas acrofacial vitiligo is very resistant to treatment. In focal vitiligo, you have a few spots appearing in any part of your body, whereas segmental vitiligo is a solitary patch or few patches, which appears is one half of your body. It does not cross one half of the body and goes to the other half. In generalized vitiligo, you have symmetrical appearance of patches on both sides of the body.so if you have it on the elbow, you have it on the other. If you have it on one knee, you have it on the other knee. They tend to cross the midline and appear on both sides of the body. The last part is acrofacial vitiligo. In acrofacial vitiligo, you have white patches appear in on the hands, on your feet and on the face. For some reason acrofacial vitiligo is resistant to medical and surgical compared to the other three varieties of vitiligos.
