One of the unfortunate complication of an intramuscular injections is development of an abscess at the site of infection is called the injection abscess. Depending on the time and stay of diagnosis is we have various modalities of treatment. If there is an early development which results in pain, induration and swelling in the site. Initially it can be treated hot fermentation, local application of anti-inflammatory drugs and supportive management. Further inspite of these medications, if the abscess continues to be there, then in some cases, we resort to treating these abscess through a process called as incision and drainage, where we may have to drain out this abscess for early resolution of abscess.
