How much do you know about rashes? Hi I’m Dr. Carole Keim and I bet you didn’t know that most rashes, even whole-body ones, don’t affect the palms and soles. The skin on your palms and soles is different than the rest of your body, so rashes that show up there are very specific!
The most common one is called Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease. It is caused by a virus that spreads just like the common cold, so it tends to run through schools and daycare centers pretty quickly. It’s not dangerous, it just causes a fever, sore throat, and you guessed it – a rash that starts on the palms and soles. The rash looks like little pink circles or rings that are really blisters deep in the skin. If you look at your child’s throat you might see white spots – those are the same blisters, only in the throat, and those ones do hurt.
If your child has such a sore throat that they can’t eat, it’s time to see a doctor. If you live within 30 minutes of Boulder, CO I can come to your home and help your child right there- they don’t even have to get out of bed! I can even do a strep test, just to rule that out. Save my number below for the next time your child has a sore throat or a rash.
