I used a black henna hair dye to color my eyebrows for 3 years uneventfully. Then one day after my 2-weekish reapplication of henna, my eyelids were red, blistering, scaly. That rash and roughness that resembled sun poisoning, was a contact dermatitis, and it took quite awhile to calm down.
My eyebrow and upper eyelid area was messed up for at least a month.I had to put aloe vera and vitamin E on it.That helped somewhat .It prevent scarring I am lucky i did not suffer.
In cosmetology school,i learned that once we get dermatitis,it always gets worse when we expose ourselves to this thing that we reacted to.
Watch out when you are dyeing your eyebrows. It can be done BUT always use plastic or wood or glass NOT metal when mixing peroxide (metals react to these chemicals!) And use Q- tips or the generic version , to apply brow dye…. DO NOT use eyeshadow brushes with their METAL.I;’ve seen some youtubers do that.I cringed but I did not say anything.
There is real all natural henna, but you HAVE to read the ingredients list.Watch out for the chemical Para-phenylenediamine (PPD).This chemical is not good for use near the eyes.Don;t make the same mistake I did.
Henna does not even need peroxide. It just mixes with warm water.
One thing i forgot to mention in the video. It is important to do a “patch test” before you use hair dye.Even if it’s the same dye you’ve been using for years.
You can develop an allergic reaction even if you previously had no problems with the formula. And, we all know that companies change their formulas.
If you are going to dye your brows it is better to use a permanent dye (but make sure PPD is not in it). Note, the package directions will always say to NOT use it near the eyes at all. It can cause blindness.
I have used black dye before on my brows.I would prefer permanent purple to match my hair, but that is hard to find.Anyhow, brow hairs only last a few weeks before they fall out,so a dye job only lasts a couple weeks. But it IS nice waking up with eyebrows.
Through the years I’ve used lots of things including nail polish (!) That works to wake up “made up” but probably looks best on Goths and punk rockers. It saves time if you are on the road and have limited resources.
