HI THERE I’M DOCTOR CAROLE KEIM AND I’M HERE TO TELL YOU THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ECZEMA AND RINGWORM BECAUSE THEY ARE OFTEN CONFUSED FOR EACH OTHER.
ECZEMA AND RINGWORM ARE BOTH CIRCULAR SKIN RASHES THAT LOOK LIKE RED, DRY, SCALY PATCHES. THEY ARE BOTH ITCHY, AND GET WORSE WITH SCRATCHING. HOWEVER, THE CAUSES AND TREATMENTS ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.
ECZEMA IS AN ALLERGIC CONDITION, AND REQUIRES STEROID CREAM. RINGWORM IS A FUNGAL INFECTION THAT REQUIRES ANTIFUNGAL CREAM.
SOMETIMES ECZEMA GETS INFECTED WITH BACTERIA SUCH AS STAPH OR MRSA, WHICH WOULD BE TREATED WITH PRESCRIPTION-STRENGTH ANTIBIOTIC OINTMENT.
IT’S IMPORTANT TO SEE A DOCTOR TO HAVE THE CORRECT DIAGNOSIS, SO YOU CAN USE THE RIGHT MEDICATION. IF YOU USE THE WRONG CREAM, IT WILL MAKE THE RASH GET WORSE, SO DON’T TRY TO GUESS!
IF YOU LIVE WITHIN 30 MINUTES OF BOULDER YOU CAN CALL ME AT THE NUMBER BELOW, AND I CAN COME OVER AND HELP YOU OR YOUR LITTLE ONE GET A PROPER DIAGNOSIS AND PRESCRIBE MEDICATION.
