UPDATE Jun 2021: When I had this issue in mid-2020, which was after this video, I did use a steroid cream for a short time as mentioned in my previous update. One of my thumbs would not heal back to normal and was still somewhat swollen. I ditched the steroid cream and returned to the Working Hands cream and my hands started to improve beyond the point where they didn’t. I do a lot of crafting and one of my hands would keep going back to looking cracked because of the friction and stress from using my fingers against paper and fabric.

If you have a similar issue and do crafts or work with papers, I recommend Grabaroo gloves, they grip well.

UPDATE Nov 2020: I had this issue again and went to doctor, they suggested a prescribed steroid and Aquaphor which is over the counter. Doctor said it’s likely dyshidrotic eczema. Doctor told me to apply steroid cream then a layer of Aquaphor. (Over the counter cortisone didn’t help much.)

(Before going to doctor Vaseline also worked well for me to help with some of the healing, but if you have inflamed, swollen looking hands and skin, the doctor is the best person, they can diagnose you.) If you use petroleum jelly, get the Vaseline brand if you can it’s smoother than the store brands.

If you can spend a little more, Aquaphor is fragrance free and has a few other ingredients in it that you won’t get in Vaseline:

Note: I’ve been applying this multiple times during the day like after I wash my hands.

UPDATE: I applied the hand cream at night and slept with a glove for a couple of a weeks. I carried the cream during the day and applied after washing my hands. My hand improved tremendously! I definitely recommend this product. I bought it at Bed, Bath, & Beyond for less than $10.

They sell the O’Keeffe’s cream I used plus a sample of the overnight cream (lavender) combo pack here:
I tried the overnight cream from the sample size and it smells like lavender and is a light lotion, but it’s less sticky feeling than the regular cream in the jar.
