Treatment options for dishydrotic eczema vary according to the severity of the condition, the site affected, the age of the patient and the options may vary from the use of a thick moisturizer creams or to improve the tolerance of the skin. Symptoms may be relieved by the use of oral antihistamines as required. Use of a topical steroid cream with an antibiotic if needed. Or an oral course of antibiotics may be needed if there is secondary infection that is happening in the blister. In a stubborn patient and there is a severe dishydrotic eczema and there is extensive blistering and bowels which have happened in the palms and soles, they might require oral steroids. The problem with dishydrotic eczema is that it is sometimes recurrent and in a recurrent condition it is worth doing a patch test to understand the cause of this trigger so that the cause can be remediated. The cornerstone of treatment is to moisturize the hand and feet and improve the tolerance of the skin. Use of a good barrier moisturizer helps these conditions.
