What are the common skin allergies? – Dr. Sachith Abraham

The common skin allergies, I divide them into 2 categories, one is drug induced allergies and the other is environmentally related or pollen related, dust related or dust mite related allergies. Dust mite related allergies, the common symptom on the skin is atopic eczema or airborne contact dermatitis. In these are the common allergies which the people see and this comes usually in 2 seasons, once in summer and once in winter these can cause severe itching reactions or eczematous reaction. These are environmental allergens that can cause the allergies. The other common cause for allergies from environmental factors are allergy to certain metals or dyes or pollen or chemicals or certain creams which contain some chemicals called as parabens. These cause external allergic reactions. Drug allergies are another manifest sometimes as fixed drug eruption or drug induced maculopapular rash or sometimes the more serious Steven’s Johnson’s syndrome or the most common toxic epidermal necrolysis. So these are the common skin allergies.
