Know all about vaginal itching and rashes – Dr. Rasya Dixit

The vaginal area in a woman is always an area which is prone to a lot of infection and irritation. This is because this area is very moist by the secretions of the vagina itself as well as the genital area secretions and the anal secretions, because they are very close to each other. So common causes of itching could be something as simple as fungal infections in this area or could be happening if fungus is growing in moist area or a candidial infection which is there in the vagina, which is tracking down into the perianal area or even like a worm infestation which could be causing irritation in this area. Sometimes what we feel is when there is no white discharge or there is no skin changes in the skin, overaggressive cleansing or overaggressive hygiene management because women get anxious about their infectious state that they start using very harsh soaps in this area and that dries out the skin and makes it prone for eczema. So let us look what is the hygiene like and how you should keep your vaginal hygiene intact. First of all the vagina pH is about 5.5 which is an acid pH. So do not use any hard soaps in this area, instead use a vaginal wash made for these kind of areas. These washes have an acid kind of pH which makes sure that this flora in this area stays balanced. And you can wash twice a day. Clean the area, make sure the area is completely dry and then wear clean underwears and you can cleanse upto 2 times a day. Second thing is if the itching persist for beyond 2 -3 days, then it is time to see a doctor because they will be able to differentiate whether the itching is coming from inside where it could be a candidiasis, that could be a common fungal infection that you are seeing. Even in unmarried women or is it an external infection. So you see your dermatologist if you are not better.
