1. Gout
Gout causes sudden severe joint pain in the feet or toes, which is a type of arthritis. This condition usually affects the joints in the big toe. Attacks of gout are usually treated with anti-inflammatory medicine and by the person avoiding high purine foods.

2. Heart infection
If you find a red line under your big toe, be careful. This can be a sign of a damaged blood vessel. This occurs when clots occur under the nail. This can be a sign of endocarditis, an infection in the heart.
3. Thyroid disorders
Legs that are too dry and exfoliated can be a sign of thyroid problems, especially if you have tried using a moisturizer and that doesn’t help much. Someone who has a thyroid problem will experience severe skin dryness.
4. Diabetes
One of the most common symptoms of diabetes is injuries to feet than don’t heal. This can occur because uncontrolled glucose levels damage the nerves and affect blood circulation. People who have diabetes are often diagnosed with foot problems at first. Some other symptoms of diabetes are tingling and numbness in the legs.

5. Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD for short)
PAD is a common condition, in which a build-up of fatty deposits in the arteries restricts blood supply to leg muscles.
Many people with PAD have no symptoms. However, some develop a painful ache in their legs when they walk, which usually disappears after a few minutes’ rest.
The pain can range from mild to severe, and usually goes away after a few minutes when you rest your legs.
Both legs are often affected at the same time, although the pain may be worse in one leg.
Other symptoms of PAD can include:

• hair loss on your legs and feet
• numbness or weakness in the legs
• brittle, slow-growing toenails
• open sores on your feet and legs, which don’t heal
• changing skin colour on your legs, such as turning pale or blue
• & shiny skin
6. Lung cancer or heart disease
A swollen toe could be the result of trauma or infection or it could be a symptom of a condition such arthritis. Symptoms of swollen toes can also be associated with lung cancer, chronic lung infection, heart disease, and intestinal disease. Lung cancer and heart disease will reduce vascular resistance, which means blood flow to the small arteries in the toenails and finger tips will increase.

7. Psoriasis
Other symptoms that you should not ignore are small holes or grooves in your toenails. It has been found that people suffering from nail psoriasis also experience psoriasis on the skin. It should be noted that there are only five percent of people who experience psoriasis in the nail part and do not experience the same thing in other parts of the body.

8. Anaemia or lupus
Spoon-like nails are an indication of iron deficiency. This can be a sign of anaemia or lupus. This condition is usually experienced by young children, but will normally correct with a change in diet. If you experience this, immediately check it out. 9. Skin cancer
