Scabies (Skin Condition) | What Is It, Classic vs. Crusted Types, Signs & Symptoms, Treatment



Lesson on Scabies: Pathogenesis, Risk Factors and Transmission, Classic and Crusted Types, Signs & Symptoms, Diagnosis and Treatment. Scabies is a skin condition due to infestation with mite parasites of the species Sarcoptes scabiei. These scabies mites can be transmitted via close, direct contact or indirect contact via fomites. There are two types of Scabies: Classic Scabies and Crusted Scabies. Classic and Crusted Scabies each have characteristic symptoms, skin findings, and skin distribution, which we discuss in this lesson. In this lesson, we also discuss how scabies is diagnosed and treated.
