Seborrheic Dermatitis | Dandruff and Cradle Cap | Causes, Risk Factors, Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment
Seborrheic Dermatitis is a condition involving inflammatory skin lesions with scaling/crusts in areas with high concentrations of sebaceous glands. Seborrheic Dermatitis occurs due to abnormal immune reaction to Malassezia fungi. Several medical conditions and patient characteristics increase the risk for having Seborrheic Dermatitis including being immunocompromised. Seborrheic Dermatitis leads to characteristic distribution of skin lesions including lesions on the scalp and face. In this lesson, we discuss in depth the all the risk factors, pathophysiology behind the condition, how it’s diagnosed and how it’s treated.
