Eczema is an annoying problem for the child because of the repeated itching, they are not able to eat and concentrate well. So eczema is nothing but a breach in the continuity of the skin. I would not call it as seriously debilitating but yes, it is definitely an annoying and frustrating condition both for the child as well as the parent. There are ways to prevent is to minimize the over drying of the skin. Give bath only once a day using very mild cleanser best suited for your child’s skin. Do not use the adult soaps and body washed in the children because the very structure of their kind is different. Make sure you pat dry the skin of the child and not vigorously rub the skin of the child with the towel. Make sure you use a dermatologist recommended moisturizer immediately after bath and once before you sleep. Make use to minimize the contact with things that can catch dust especially the soft toys and carpets and sand play, that is involved these days in day care and toddler programs. I would recommend it against if the child is predisposed to eczema. Make sure that you include lot of Omega 3 in the diet. Omega 3 in general increases the barrier function of the skin. Hence the predisposition to the eczema decreases. Eczema can be treated.it is one of the easiest things to treat. Maintenance is the difficult part but we have seen with adequate counseling we have seen many parents and patients doing well. Avoid using home remedies like turmeric, gram flour, green gram flour to wash the babies as all of them are abrasive in nature and they can increase the chance of the child getting eczema. Please consult the dermatologist to get a skin acre regimen for your baby. If your child is already suffering from eczema, we have these safe regimens, all are safe and do not carry any risk of side effects in the future if done under recommendation of a dermatologist.
