In the general sustainable fashion community, you often here that natural fibers are infinitely better for garment making than synthetics like polyester and acrylic. While I also agree that natural fiber textiles tend to make higher quality garments that are much more enjoyable to wear, I wanted to have a more in depth conversation about why that is. Sadly, natural fibers are not perfect. They’re preferable to synthetics for many reasons, but all fibers come with their own pros and cons.
