In my 7th and final Sherlock Your Skin Series video, we go over a very high OVERLOOKED yet obvious detail in eczema care and treatment: Ethnicity.

We are not robots. We are not machines. We are all individuals who come from various backgrounds and whose ancestors grew up in very specific conditions in climate, who ate a certain diet, have different amounts of melanin and exposure to the sun and their bodies adapted to fit the environment and lifestyle they were living in to the max. They told each other stories of how their ancestors healed through the local flora and fauna around them that grew in the same environment as them.

For the medical system to have a singular prescription and script they stick to for every single person of every ethnicity is just not cutting it. It is not enough. It lacks this very important information that ironically we are born with! It defines our very appearance! Isn’t it so obvious? How can this not be a key factor in eczema treatment? Not once was this ever considered by any dermatologist who tried to recommend me something for my skincare or rash recovery.

Another thing to consider is that the genetic code of our heritage has gotten passed down to us and if our family immigrated to another country with a different set of conditions for you to grow up in, it may have affected your immune system and how your skin responds to different things it is exposed to inside and out.

As I type this now, I wonder if this is why people who are of mixed heritage tend to have better immune systems. They inherited the best of all of the worlds their parents’ ancestors grew up with, giving them double, triple, quadruple the amount of genetic code and information from various environments to heal and adapt to. In a way, it’s a blessing. Funny to think that be even just bi-racial in the 1990s and before was looked down upon. Now, the science is saying it’s a benefit. Look at us now. The world is changing. Let’s transform it and medical system into something better. Something that actually works FOR us!
