Fungal Infection on the skin are of two types. One is tenia group of infection or caused by a fungus called as dermatophytes. So this is in common mans language known as Ringworm or Jock itch or Dhobie Itch. So usually this Ringworm comes in the groin or in the private areas and sometimes it can spread even to the upper part of the body or the underarms. Another superficial infection is caused by Malsezia versicolor. So Malassezia versicolor is a very superficial infection and it doesn’t cause any itching inflammation and doesn’t bother the patient at all, except that it can cause brown or whitish patches. So that type of Fungal Infection is more common in the underarms., the chest, neck or in the face. This second type of Fungal Infection can be treated very easily in about 1 to 3 weeks whereas the first type that is the ringworm is more resistant to treatment sometimes it takes about 3 to 4 months to completely eradicate the infection. It is important to advise patient on washing clothes, hygiene kind of antiseptics they need while washing clothes. Not to mix towels clothes with other family members to prevent the spread of infection. So hygienic practices also has to be informed to the patient also with the Fungal Infection.
