ለልጆች የጣሳ ወተት ስንጠቀም የምንሰራቸው 8 ከባድ ስህተቶች | 8 Critical Mistakes with formula Milk for Kids | Dr. Fasil #health #ebs #ethiopian
formula milk can be a shelf-stable and convenient option for feeding children, but there are some important things to keep in mind to ensure it’s used safely and effectively. Here are 8 critical mistakes to avoid with canned milk for kids:
1. Not following mixing instructions carefully. Improper dilution of canned milk can lead to malnutrition or even be dangerous for your child. Always follow the mixing instructions on the label carefully, using the recommended amount of water for the specific type of canned milk and your child’s age.
2. Using canned milk as a primary source of nutrition. Canned milk is not a complete food and lacks essential nutrients like iron and vitamin D that are important for babies and young children. Breast milk, formula, or fortified cow’s milk should be the primary source of nutrition for infants and toddlers.
3. Introducing canned milk too early. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of life, followed by continued breastfeeding with the introduction of safe and appropriate complementary foods. Consult your pediatrician before introducing canned milk to your child.
4. Not storing canned milk properly. Store unopened canned milk in a cool, dry place. Once opened, refrigerate leftover prepared canned milk and use it within 48 hours. Discard any leftover canned milk after that period.
5. Giving canned milk to a child with allergies or intolerances. Canned milk can be made from cow’s milk, goat’s milk, or soy. If your child has a milk allergy or intolerance, choose a canned milk made from a suitable alternative like soy. Always check the ingredients list before giving canned milk to your child.
6. Using expired canned milk. Check the expiration date on the canned milk before using it. Do not give expired canned milk to your child.
7. Not warming canned milk properly. If you are using canned milk for a baby, warm it gently to lukewarm temperature. Do not heat canned milk in the microwave, as it can create hot spots that can burn your baby’s mouth. Use a stovetop or bottle warmer to warm canned milk to body temperature.
8. Using canned milk in place of medical treatment. If your child is experiencing diarrhea or vomiting, consult a doctor instead of relying solely on canned milk for rehydration. They may recommend oral rehydration solution (ORS) or other treatments.
