Cysts are NOT ingrown hair! A dermatologist explains what an epidermal cyst is and how to treat it.

Epidermal cysts are very common and can look similar to acne blackheads or in grown hair but are different in origin and architecture. There is a “wall” within which there is cheesy material called keratin. Sometimes the keratin can come out of the hole, called the punctum. Thankfully these are benign and not cancerous, but they can be pesky! If bothersome, we can remove them in clinic.

As always, please be sure not to use this video for self-diagnosis, as sometimes what looks like a cyst could be something else of concern. See your dermatologist for a diagnosis!
