The difference between lye relaxers & no lye. why it matters #haircarecommunity #healthyhairjourney

✨LYE VS NO-LYE RELAXERS ✨

Lye Relaxers:
✅ Generally come in a jar, ready to use
✅ Active Ingredient: Sodium Hydroxide
✅ Known to be gentler on the hair but “harsher”on the scalp
✅ Maintains more of the integrity in the hair fibres
✅ Hair is generally less prone to breakage & dryness

No-Lye Relaxers:
✅ Generally come as a kit, needs to be mixed with an activator
✅ Active Ingredient: Calcium Hydroxide
✅Harsher on the hair, gentler on the scalp
✅Often sold as “sensitive scalp” formulas
✅Less likely to experience burning
✅ Leaves a calcium deposit on the hair which can prevent hair from absorbing moisture unless clarified properly
✅Higher chance of overprocessing the hair

My general observations:

Most Salon professionals use the Lye Relaxers.

Many of your fav relaxer girlies also use a #LyeRelaxer. The main exception are the #texturized girlies. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I’m on the Lye Train for now until further notice but it’s important to know how your hair many be reacting to each relaxer type so you can make an informed decision
