The skin peels over the entire body. But this is an invisible peeling, usually which is occurring throughout the day, especially when we take a bath or scrub our skin. But there are conditions where there is visible peeling of the skin, especially on the palms and the feet. So the most common condition that we see is keratolysis exfoliativa. This is a natural condition and not any disease. This is when the body undergoes large shedding of several layers of skin at a time . Sometimes it can be associated vitamin deficiency or with fever. So after you recover from a fever, this is possible because your body is regenerating new cells. Other conditions where there is peeling of skin include recovering from fungal infections like tenia pedis, recovery from psoriasis, which can affect the legs, recovery from very severe infections in children, viral infections or bacterial infections in children. That can also cause peeling of the skin. Classic example is children who are suffering from bacterial infection called as Scarlet Fever. They have a lot of peeling of skin on the palms and the soles. Most of the times peeling of skin on the palms and the soles is harmless whereas sometimes it can be associated with a fungal or a bacterial infection. So if you have any peeling of the skin on the hands and the legs, where everytime there is a seasonal change, then it is most probably natural and harmless, whereas if it is a sudden thing which you have noticed recently or after a fever or you feel weakness or other symptoms, then it is better to go visit your doctor and consult regarding the peeling of the skin on the hands and the feet.
