A staph skin infection is caused by a type of bacteria called Staphylococcus aureus, commonly known as staph. Many people naturally carry this bacteria on their skin or inside their nose without any problems. It doesn’t usually cause harm. However, if the bacteria enter the body through a break in the skin such as a cut, scrape or insect bite it can lead to an infection.
