Swelling on the lips generally occurs due to some kind of strain to the soft tissue of the lip. There are various causes for swollen lips like severe climatic conditions, dehydration, dietary deficiencies, viral infection, external injury, dryness, insect bite and allergic reaction.

A disfigured swollen lip is not just awkward looking but painful too. There are definitely medications for it, but there are also some amazing natural remedies too.

Cold Compress
Applying a cold compress can be relieving and calming at the same time. Just wrap a few ice cubes in a paper towel or a soft wash-cloth and apply this pack on your lips compressing them softly. Repeat the process at regular intervals for quick relief. Do not use direct ice on the swollen lip though.
Salt and Witch Hazel
Witch hazel has astringent properties that help to disinfect and clean the skin surface. Apart from that, witch hazel soothes swollen lips and decreases inflammation. Just mix one teaspoon of table salt with one teaspoon of witch hazel to make a solution. Use clean cotton to apply the mixture to the infected lip. Wash with cold water after 30 minutes. Continue with this remedy, several times a day, until you get your desired results.
Turmeric
Turmeric contains curcumin which acts as an antiseptic. Several studies have also linked this powder with blood circulation. You should make a herbal ointment by mixing fuller’s earth with turmeric powder. Then, apply this ointment on the swollen lips, and let it dry before washing off with warm water. For this treatment to work, you should repeat this procedure two times in a day. The healing process can take one day to a few weeks.

Tea Bag
Black tea contains tannin which have unique astringent properties. Black tea also has the ability to reduce swelling of the soft tissues in your lips. Tea tree oil

Alternatively, you can mash a potato to make a paste and apply on the swollen lip. You can use this treatment as many times as you want.

Coconut Oil
A coconut is loaded with antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Being a unique emollient, it offers a soothing effect and keeps the lips nourished. For this coconut oil remedy, you should take one teaspoon of coconut oil and apply on the affected lip four times a day. Continue with the treatment for about one week.

Baking Soda
Baking soda has an unmatched soothing ability. For this reason, it can provide quick relief from pain associated with swollen lips. It works well when the cause of the swelling is as a result of an insect bite, fever blister or allergic reaction. To use this treatment, you should mix three tablespoons of baking soda with little water to obtain a paste and then apply, this paste, on the affected lip. Continue with this remedy, several times a day, until the swelling reduces completely.
Epsom Salt
Epsom salt works as a natural disinfectant. So, if your lips have cuts and bruises, they will heal quickly. Epsom salt is also effective in reducing the swelling. Ideally, you should mix one teaspoon of Epsom salt with one glass of water. Apply the solution on the swollen lips with a cotton swab. For optimal results, repeat the process two times a day until the swelling subsides.
