What is Vitamin D – Sources, Benefits and Symptoms



Vitamin D actual is not a vitamin but prohormone. There are 2 forms of vitamin D, vitamin D2 & vitamin D3. Vitamin D3 also known as Cholecalciferol which is synthesized when UV-B rays from the sun hits the skin and from a very few animal based food sources. On the other hand, Vitamin D2 also known as Ergocalciferol is plant based and is produced my mushroom that are irradiated with UV-B.

The recent research has shown that vitamin D3 is more potent vitamin D2. Its effects stays longer in our body.

1. Sunscreen. It block the UVB radiations that are essential for the production of vitamin D by the skin.
2. Melanin Content of your skin.
3. Age.
4. Your Body Fat Percentage.
