Generally we can arrive at a conclusion after performing the skin break test provided we take a proper history and work up the patient before doing the test. If the findings on allergy skin prick test match with our suspected allergen during the history taking then we can be certain that a person is allergic to that. For example if there is a strong history of the person getting sneezing attacks, running nose etc inside the bedroom where the dust mite content will be maximum and if our SPT report also correlates with a positive wheel and Flay reaction for dust mite we can be 100% sure that the person is sensitized to the dust mite. Similarly a person can be sensitized to cockroach other insects housefly house dust or fungus growing in the wet areas in the corners of the room or animal dander such as dog and cat or outdoor allergens can be like a pollens from the weeds, grasses or trees. So by a correlation of the history and our skin prick test result we can be pretty much sure about what is causing the allergy to the individual.
