HOT OIL TREATMENT | For Dreadlocks & Afro-Textured Hair



Keep your dreadlocks cool even when it’s cold.

With Fall and Winter around the corner, try this Hot Oil Treatment to keep your hair moisturized during the cooler and drier months of the year. This treatment promotes healthy hair growth, strengthens the hair shaft, conditions, fights dandruff and moisturizes your scalp.

DIRECTIONS

1. Mix oils together in an easy-application bottle
2. Warm oils by placing bottle in a glass/bowl of hot water
3. Rinse locs to prepare the hair
4. Apply the hot oil to your locs (root to tip)
5. Use a plastic cap or bag to cover your hair
6. Leave in your hair for 30 minutes
7. Shampoo or cowash your locs to remove the excess oils

Oils Used: Coconut, Olive, JBCO, Rosemary, Grape Seed, Jojoba, Carrot, Tea Trea & Almond

COCONUT OIL (UNREFINED COLD PRESSED)
• Vitamin E
• Fatty acids (moisture, promotes growth, adds shine, reduces keratin loss (key component of hair and nails))
• Lauric acid (a fatty acid triglyceride that penetrates inside the hair shaft, has a high affinity for hair proteins, an antibacterial and antifungal nutrient)

OLIVE OIL
• Prevents the production of dihyrdrotesterone (DHT), which is a hormone that decreases hair growth at the follicle
• Lauric acid
• Adds shine and softens hair

• Reduces flakiness or dryness

ESSENTIAL OILS can be used to promote healthy hair growth, strengthen the hair shaft, condition, fight dandruff and moisturize your scalp. Here are a few of the ones I used and more that you may want to include in your personal blend of oils. Remember, essential oils are often concentrated (check the label as they may be diluted in a carrier oil) so use them sparingly.

JAMAICAN BLACK CASTOR OIL
• Moisturizes, thickens, and strengthens hair
• Simulates increased blood flow to the scalp, thus rapidly increases hair growth
• Prevents hair breakage, dandruff, eczema and dry, itchy scalp. 

CARROT OIL
• Rich in vitamins A, C, E and beta-carotene
• Moisturizes hair
• Improves blood circulation to the scalp, thus increases hair growth
• Prevents split ends and breakage
• Helps with scalp eczema and dermatitis

JOJOBA OIL
• Soothes scalp and helps with dryness
• Strengthens and hydrates hair from the inside out
• Adds shine, elasticity and softness
• Encourages hair growth
• Helps repair damaged hair

TEA TREE OIL
• Soothes itchy scalp
• Moisturizes the scalp which prevents dandruff, psoriasis and head lice
• Reduces hair loss and promotes hair growth
• Anti-fungal, antibacterial, antiseptic, antiviral and anti-infection

ALMOND OIL
• Controls hair loss
• Protects the hair shaft from becoming too dry (especially after shampooing)
• Adds shine

ROSEMARY OIL
• Enhances hair growth
