Lichen planus – Symptoms & risk factors – Dr. Amee Daxini

Lichen Planus is though not very well known, many of us suffer from it. Since it’s asymptomatic at times, we do not notice it.
Lichen Planus starts with purplish violet colored flat topped lessions or bumps which are seen generally around your wrists, forearms, ankles, at times it spreads all over the body.
It takes about 2-3 weeks to begin, and then it spreads. The commonest problem with Lichen Planus is itching, many of these lessions are very very itchy and thats why it needs to be treated.

Other than that, it’s absolutely asymptomatic, it doesn’t need any treatment as such. Because it’s an auto immune condition.
Your body cells are reacting aginst your own skin cells. which is why you see it, and it subsides on its own.

In case, it becomes difficult to bear with the itching, the best thing is to certain creams, meet your dermatologist, they generally start one retinoids or corticosteroids which reduce the itching, and sometimes even the spreadability.
In case, it spreads too much, especially the oral cavity or the mouth, you need to take certain other precautions, keeping the oral hygiene very good, and using certain creams for the mouth.

It’s a very basic disease, nothing much to worry about.
